  And They Call themselves Doctors!

 Based On My Personal Experiences

This is going to be a long story, as it has many parts, like a book.  This story will also address Doctors; WHY I had to see them, and so on.

doctor's oath

It all began during the summer of 2008.  My Cancer treatments had ended during November, 2007.  Fortunately, I was/am Cancer-Free. [Bear with me, this is somewhat out-of-context!].

During the end of June, I began having pains in my stomach.  I didn't pay too much attention to it, because I had been extremely constipated.  My husband took me back and forth to the emergency rooms - mostly the emergency room in Guilford, CT [A Yale New Have Satellite Hospital], where the Doctors and Nurses are ALL compassionate, and very caring!.  I didn't have a family doctor; mine had to retire during the summer of 2007, much to my dismay.  I had gone to him for over "33 years."  I miss him with all my heart.  Additionally, for six months while in and out of these hospitals, I'd been stuck in my right arm with needles and intravenous lines more than ever!

doctor's oath

My arm is all messed-up and quite sore to this day.  My left arm cannot be used, because of a Chemo line that caused injury to my veins.  Trust me, basically, I'm a very Lady-like person, who likes and trusts ALL people until they are proven differently.  I try to start out on a nice note.

doctor's oath

Anyway, I had been taking a pain killer with codeine in it.  This because my esophagus was hurting me a lot.  I also had two Endoscopies to stretch my esophagus.  It had gotten "burned during radiation treatments."    Codeine causes constipation; constipation HURTS, thus more pain killers!  I then saw a Digestive Doctor.  He put me on Miralax twice a day everyday.  This, unfortunately, I did every day and night for six months!  After a fashion, I stopped the miralx as it hurt my  stomach 30 minutes after taking it.  I switched to the safer Senna-S.  Unfortunately, TOO late.  The Miralax caused internal problems.

doctor's oath

PLEASE don't use ANY laxative for more than it's prescribed.  If the laxative isn't working during the first three days, or, a week - STOP taking it!  A BIG mistake that I made!  I am paying for it to this day.  The digestive doctor definitely made a BIG mistake with the Miralax dosing.

doctor's oath

Back and forth again to the emergency rooms.  The pains in my stomach were constant = 24/7.  These pains have lasted since June until now, February, 2009.  They have progressed to the point that they are also affecting my left leg, and back.  SO much so that I had to seek a Pain Management Doctor.  More on HIM later.

doctor's oath

My husband took me to every doctor possible to try to find an answer why this pain is in my body.  Oh My God, the remarks that some of these doctors have made to me is unbelievable!  They became insulting, and very non-caring with no compassion whatsoever.  I don't know what's happened to these "Doctors," but I do know that they have lost the "Hippocratic Oath, [You'll Find It below], compassion, genuine caring for _human-beings.  I swear to the good Lord I could NOT believe what I was experiencing with them!

doctor's oath

Being the person I am, and have become after my cancer-treatments, I don't take crap from anyone anymore; that includes "doctors."    However, I HAVE met several wonderful physicians.

doctor's oath

You wouldn't believe how some of these so-called doctors treat patients!  How they are devoid of feelings and genuine compassion!  The doctors of today are NOT like the doctors of say 15 years ago.  Those were the REAL doctors.  The ones who truly cared about the patient.

doctor's oath

While I was in Saint Raphael's Emergency Room [New Haven Connecticut], this one time I caught a doctor whom I could kick in the butt!  She is a young doctor, and while I was in the E.R. bed, laying there in pain, waiting for a doctor to come in and examine me, she completely ignored me.  I was in there for 3 hours.  In came a nurse to administer a Pain Shot.  I asked her "What Kind of Pain Shot Is That?"  And, she replied:  "It's Just Like What's In Advil/Tylenol."  Heck, I could've stayed HOME and taken Advil!  This uncaring young female doctor came into my room.  She said:  "We're sending You Home.  We can't Find Any Reason To Admit You Into The Hospital."  I couldn't believe my ears!  PAIN Lady!!!  Her attitude was unreal.

doctor's oath

We have been to a Neurologist and Orthopedic Doctor.  I have gotten some news as to what's causing my pain:

The radiation and Chemo treatments have caused Nerve Damage.  And, I have Two Degenerative Discs located in my lower spine; and I have Scoliosis.  I will be going to see a Spine Dr.  (I saw the Spine Surgeon who referred me to the New Pain Treatment Center).

doctor's oath

As It's done with Laser rather than invasive surgery.  Hopefully, the spine doctor I'm planning on seeing will  suggest this treatment for me.  Discs don't re-generate, they only get worse.  At this point in time, It can only help me via getting these discs repaired.  One less thing to worry about.

Hopefully also, it will lessen the pain I'm having.  Yes, I'm desperate!  It's hard living with pain 24/7.

Now, the Pain Doctor was the worst!  We went to see him on Weds., Feb. 11th for the second visit.  He had told me during the first visit that I had Scoliosis, but didn't really go into it.  During this second visit, I was calm [While in severe pain as usual], a Lady.  I was asking him some questions about the Scoliosis:  Do I or Don't I Have it?  He replied: Yes, but not severe enough for surgery.  Okay, I replied.  He was doing his computer work about me while my husband and I were sitting there as he did during the initial visit.  Standard I presume.  I then began asking more questions in regard to my pain:  "Dr. Levin, Is my Pain something That Can be cured?"  He began becoming flustered.  I couldn't relate to this, as his job is treating people with pain.  He really never answered my questions.

doctor's oath

He told me that "I have two degenerative discs in my lower spine."  I said:  "Before we go any further, I'd like to see a spine doctor."  He _Really became flustered, and before I knew it, he got up from his desk, went over to my husband, shook his hand, threw his hands up in the air, and walked out of the room!  I was invisible!  And, his attitude said to me:  F-You!  He insulted the both of us with his unprofessional attitude.

doctor's oath

I honest to God could NOT believe what had happened!  On the way home in the car, my husband phoned Dr. Levin's secretary and told her:  "We will be cancelling the next appointment.  I don't feel that Dr. Levin wants my wife as his patient.  His behavior today was insulting to the both of us; and, he was very unprofessional.  If Dr. Levin would like to know why I'm cancelling, here's my office and cell phone numbers."

 SECOND PAIN DOCTOR:

(Past Tense)

We have a new Pain Management Doctor.

(But No More!)

"Comprehensive Pain & Headache Treatment Center"

130 Division Street

Derby, CT  06418

(203) 732-1570

My Doctor is Mark Thimineur, MD

Just saw him on Weds., March 11th.

I was told that "My Pain, Mostly In My Stomach and Left Leg, Will NOT get better With Time," as we first thought.  The new Pain Doctor spoke to us about a (New to Us!), procedure that will definitely get rid of my pain without having to take pain meds any longer.  This procedure is called:

Neurostimulation

This procedure has 2 steps:

First Step:  I would have sedation; then, two cuts would be made in the back of my head/scalp, and two wires inserted in each cut, with a transmitter affixed under my armpit.  This is called "The Trial Procedure."  I then wear this device for 3 weeks to see if it works.  If it works, feeling no pain, than we go to Step Two.

Step Two:  I go into the hospital, completely under anesthesia, and, permanent cuts are then made in the back of my head/scalp.  Two permanent wires are affixed to each side (One Wire Per Side).  These wires (Lead Wires), are then placed under my skin, running down and connecting to a Battery Device (The size of a Heart Pacemaker), which is inserted in my left side Chest.

The following Link explains about the procedure, however, MINE is completely different from this.  Please keep that in mind when viewing:

WHAT IS Neurostimulation

doctor's oath

Before my next visit with the Pain Doctor, we will be doing more research on this procedure.  I have spoken with a few of my friends who know people who have had this procedure done with great success....NO MORE PAIN!  One woman, as one of my friends explained, was suffering the pain from Lyme Disease to the point of no return!  She had the aforementioned procedure done (Neurostimulation), and is now 100% Pain Free and LIVING Life Again!

Unfortunately, this procedure has NOT worked for me.

 doctor's oath

I take Neurontin, prescribed by the former pain doctor (And New One Also).  It's supposed to be a non-narcotic pain killer.  So far, I don't see that it's working, and I've graduated up to a higher dose.  I still take Vicodin for the pain.  It's the only medication that takes the edge off of my pain, but, nothing takes the pain away completely.  This whole thing is a mystery!

doctor's oath

I had the surgery for the Neurostimulator, and to this date - 02/10 - It has not worked.  I found another Pain Doctor to help me,  I cannot stand this pain much longer.

Dr. Glassman sounds very good.  He couldn't understand why the placement of my NeuroStim is located in my chest/head, since my pain is located in my stomach.  I will be having my device removed, along with the wires/probes which are attached to the back of my head and run inside my veins in my neck to the device.  ALL of them hurt.  Since the Neurostimulator isn't working, I will have to have it surgically removed very soon.  I will not be going back to Dr. T. anymore.  I am going to try Dr. Glassman with the hope and prayers that his theory and procedures work to take my pain away.

doctor's oath

He has given us new hope, and new pain theories.

His Proposals For Me Are:

To have A Device with Leads/Probes surgically implanted in my inside outer stomach walls; this would be a "Trial For 7 Days/Nights Only."  If this works (God Willing!), then he will do the 2nd. procedure:

Surgery:  A Battery Device located somewhere in my stomach (?), and the Leads/Probes (Wires) implanted permanently in my outer inside stomach walls running to the Battery Device.  Where he stated that the pain is coming from, My Stomach.  He feels that attacking the pain where it's coming from is the best solution.  I agree.

Time will tell, and I will let you know what happens here on this page.

So, I say to YOU doctors out there:

Be Kind, Read the:

The Oath of Hippocrates

 AND Have a Heart

And, practice what it states!  You've obviously forgotten.

I do have a wonderful Family Doctor now, his name is Dr. Richard Slater of Branford, Connecticut.  He is Kind, compassionate, caring, and actually LISTENS to me!  What a relief to finally find a doctor such as him!  The previous family doctor I had, you could keep!  I think out of the year I had him as my doctor, I saw him twice!!!  All the other times I saw his P.A.  That's NOT who we were paying!  Oh My Goodness, it's been a complete nightmare!  I cannot believe all the losers I've met up with!  And, I had such High Hopes!

doctor's oath

If any of you out there have had experiences similar to mine, please do let me know.  However, based on my NEW findings about the "Neurostimulation" DON'T GIVE UP!  There IS hope out there, you just have to keep pushing like me until you find it!

The Oath of Hippocrates

doctor's oath

I SWEAR by Apollo the physician, and Aesculapius, and Health, and All-heal, and all the gods and goddesses, that, according to my ability and judgment, I will keep this Oath and this stipulation to reckon him who taught me this Art equally dear to me as my parents, to share my substance with him, and relieve his necessities if required; to look upon his offspring in the same footing as my own brothers, and to teach them this art, if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or stipulation; and that by precept, lecture, and every other mode of instruction, I will impart a knowledge of the Art to my own sons, and those of my teachers, and to disciples bound by a stipulation and oath according to the law of medicine, but to none others.

doctor's oath

I will follow that system of regimen which, according to my ability and judgment, I consider for the benefit of my patients, and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous. I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion. With purity and with holiness I will pass my life and practice my Art. I will not cut persons laboring under the stone, but will leave this to be done by men who are practitioners of this work. Into whatever houses I enter, I will go into them for the benefit of the sick, and will abstain from every voluntary act of mischief and corruption; and, further from the seduction of females or males, of freemen and slaves. Whatever, in connection with my professional practice or not, in connection with it, I see or hear, in the life of men, which ought not to be spoken of abroad, I will not divulge, as reckoning that all such should be kept secret. While I continue to keep this Oath unviolated, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and the practice of the art, respected by all men, in all times! But should I trespass and violate this Oath, may the reverse be my lot
