Soul Mates
You saw me in your dreams, you said. And I never saw you coming.
Two sides of the same coin.
Two halves of a whole.
Day and night.
We are like children on a see-saw, my feet on the ground as you
rise to touch the sky. And when you're weary from chasing the sun and you seek the security of solid ground, I take over pursuit of golden
rays of light and the eternity of blue firmament.

We strive separately, and we strive together.
To others who do not know us, we are a mismatch. For everything
you are is nothing that I am. And all that I am is everything you're
not.

And easily they dismiss us, believing nothing will come of us.
Yet, again and again, we prove them wrong.
For we are each other's nourishment. We are each other's support.
We give and we take in equal measure, never depleting the intangible
resources we reserve for one another.
On my darkest of nights, you are my moonlight, shining with your
celestial glow, showing me the path, giving me faith.

On your cloudiest of days, I am your sunshine, burning with my
celestial warmth, revealing possibilities, giving you hope.
And so we have been.
And so we are.
And so we will always be.
You saw me in your dreams, you said. And I never saw you coming.
We met between extremes.
And there we found love.
-Poem by Robert Villanueva

I thought I saw your face in the crowd and my universe froze in place.
From another dimension came thunder as if the earth had stopped turning on its axis
and all the planets were crashing into each other
like bumper cars at an amusement park, but it was only my wildly beating heart trying to escape from my chest.
Across a sea of flashing memories
my eyes burned into the back of your head, willing you to turn and smile at me, a desire so fervent that
my body shook in fear and anticipation.
Thoughts were caught up in wild confusion. Words tumbled to and fro, haphazardly,
in randomness
while I frantically tried to think
of what I should say to you,
even as I visualized the moment
you would turn and see me,
a joyous look upon your face
happiness rushing up to greet you.
It seemed to last forever,
but it was probably only seconds
until I reached out and touched the arm of a startled stranger.
In that empty moment of disillusion
and dismay, I missed you with the passion of the day you went away.
I will always search for your face
in each person who passes me by.
Even though your life no longer travels in an orbit with my own,
I know that some day, somehow
we will come face to face again.

Our eyes will meet
and we will smile and say "hello,"
feeling the rightness of that moment.
And maybe this time
we will write a new ending
to an old story.
-Poem by Patricia A. Teckelt

And God made pets...
He must have known that we would need someone in our life
who would not demand much of us except that we love it.
He must have known that we would need someone who would always be
faithful...
listen to us when the world turned away at times...
coax us into getting up and trying again...
always lending an ear and never complaining if we talked too much...
He must have know we would need someone to walk beside us when we did
not feel like talking but needed someone to love us anyway...
Someone who would listen to our dreams and believe that we could do
anything...
Someone who would be waiting at the end of a long day to welcome us
with so much enthusiasm...
He must have known we would need the responsibility of caring and
showing that we cared...
For God created pets for us to share a part of our lives with... a
source of endless joy and blessings. They ask so little but give so much
in return...
For some they have become the only one to come home to; for little boys
and little girls -- a companion on days filled with joy;
for the elderly, a knowing friend to walk beside... but for all a true
blessing... I am so glad God thought of pets!
