On the way home, I began to think
about Faye ... about what she goes
through being married to a peace
officer ... and about Fred ... for
when he goes to work ... he
literally lays his own life on the
line ... as do all the police
officers, sheriffs, highway
patrolmen and others.

And we see them, each day doing
their jobs ... but do we really
SEE them? I wonder do we really
understand just how much they love
this land ... our country. Do we
really understand the oath they
take?

I think of all those whose very
lives have been taken as they
simply stopped a car on the
interstate to check a driver's
license. I think about those who
said "See you later" to their
wives and kids one morning and
never returned. I think about
those families as I sit down
beside my husband at our dinner
table. There are empty chairs in
those homes at the dinner table.

I think about those brave firemen
who went upstairs as the people
ran down them on Sept 11th. They
knew ... they were helping save
lives ... and they also knew it
might cost them their very own
life. They are our heroes ...
forevermore.

I think about them all ... and as
I see Faye and Fred, I think about
how he goes to work everyday ...
planning for the safety of this
community ... of the people who
live in this county ... and I
think about his deputies ... who
also give so willingly of
themselves to ensure our town is
safe.

And the paramedics and EMT's who
appear when help is needed the
very most ... no matter what time
of the day or night ... who
administer first-aid and a caring
heart...

So many people ... so much
love...for their fellowman ... for
their county ... their state and
their country.

How about the next time you see
one of them. Stop a minute and
tell them..."Thank you for all you
do in our community." A simple
sentence ... but so far from a
simple gesture ... for we all need
to take a minute and say thank-you
to those you place their lives on
the line for us.

It started as a Saturday night
dinner but it ended with a
thankful spirit ... for in
listening to them ... and seeing
them, I realized we are blessed to
have such a sheriff and his wife
in our community.

Remember ... to tell them thanks ... and say a prayer for them all tonight
as you get really to fall asleep.
For they are out there ...
watching over us. Protecting us...
God bless our them all.
